Electronic sports is the use of electronic equipment as sports equipment, the combination of human intelligence and physical competition.

起因

1997年，亚洲金融危机爆发，其危害波及全世界。韩国1998年GDP增长倒退5.8%，韩元大幅贬值50%，股市暴跌70%以上。韩国人注意到了他们国家经济的产业结构存在严重的问题：国民经济的支柱产业都是以出口为主，受世界经济环境变化的影响过大。

金融危机过后，韩国政府开始了努力改变产业结构。很快，韩国的电影电视产业、游戏动漫产业开始得到政府的扶持和快速发展，而电子竞技产业作为一支国民经济的生力军也得到了巨大的发展契机。

Electronic sports, abbreviated e-sports or eSports, is used as a general term to describe the play of video games as a professional sport. Other terms include competitive gaming, cybersports, cyber athletics (used by the CPL) and V-Sports (used by the GGL)

Games which are considered electronic sports normally belong to the first-person shooter, real-time strategy, or sports game genres. They are played competitively at both amateur and professional levels. The biggest eSports nation is considered to be South Korea. ('eSports' word comes from South Korea)
